Why this shape
The shortest package, built for a short break or a first taste before a beach stay. It spends three of its four nights in the cool of the hills and finishes in Colombo, so the last morning is an easy one.

Day 1. Pinnawala and Kandy
Drive 115 km · 3 hMet at the airport and driven inland to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage for the bathing and bottle feeding, with an elephant ride there. On to Kandy for a gem museum and a Kandyan cultural show in the evening.

Day 2. Kandy
No transferThe Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, known for their orchids, a tour of the city, and the Temple of the Tooth, the most venerated Buddhist shrine on the island.

Day 3. The tea road
Drive 80 km · 3 hUp through Ramboda and its falls, stopping at a tea factory and a tea garden, to Nuwara Eliya and an evening walk in Victoria Park.

Day 4. Colombo
Drive 170 km · 4 h 30Down from the hills to Colombo for a city tour and a shopping stop.

Drive 35 km · 45 minTo the airport, or on to a beach stay.
Distances and drive times are typical for an unhurried private car, not a promise. Sri Lankan roads outside the expressways are single carriageway through villages, so a hundred and fifty kilometres is usually three hours. Every figure here is an estimate.
